The future of cross-border interbank payments: Wholesale CBDCs
The presentation addresses the key takeaway messages of cross-border wholesale CBDC projects and how these systems could transform the global payment system into a more diversified and more efficient payment network by utilizing the opportunities of DLT technology. The key drivers of wholesale CBDCs have been collected and analyzed to demonstrate the wide range of benefits that the technology could offer.
About the speaker: Adam Retkes is IT Product Owner at OTP Bank where he coordinates a team of senior developers and is an independent researcher of central bank digital currencies. He gained substantial system design experience by contributing to the development of the Hungarian Instant Payment System. In his research activities, he focuses on the business requirements and system integration best practices of CBDCs. He is a banking IT and Italian cuisine enthusiast with a strong focus on emerging tech.
- Quartering the US dollar's share in global trade
The presentation demonstrates the global macroeconomic and geopolitical risks of the Chinese wholesale central bank digital currency project and those of the global central bank digital currency (CBDC) developments. The two elements are analyzed in the context of the most significant challenges of the US-dollar-based financial system. To this, I will undertake to present a potential new order in global payments and introduce the notion of the geopolitics of CBDCs.
About the speaker: Daniel Nagy is currently the Head of Distribution at Portfolio Financial and is an independent researcher of central bank digital currencies. His research in the field integrates central banking, technology and geopolitics. Previously, Daniel was the Head of Institutional Sales at Hold Asset Management, and he has extensive experience in capital markets and wealth management. He is passionate about helping students, playing basketball and immersing in unique gastro experiences.
