Fabric Technical Introduction & LA Blockchain Lab Update

Welcome to another edition of Hyperledger LA!
This March we are very excited to hear from two amazing speakers.

Horea Porutiu, IBM Cloud Lead Developer Advocate, will provide a guided introduction to development on Hyperledger Fabric, and we will also hear from Benjamin Tsai, co-founder and the CFO of LA Blockchain Lab, who will share about the Lab's experiences and exciting work going on in LA.

Technical Talk:
Have you ever wanted to get into blockchain development, but haven’t found a good place to start? In this talk, we will explore a use case of blockchain and show you how it can be applied in a real-world scenario using an open-source, distributed-ledger platform called Hyperledger Fabric. First, we will cover the architecture and components of the Fabric platform (the peer, the orderer and the certificate authority), and then run a Node.js application to interact with the network. Later, we will cover the main Hyperledger Fabric APIs you’ll need to know to implement digital identity, smart contracts, and to ultimately update the ledger. Lastly, we will interact with the application and check the details of the transactions using the IBM Cloud Blockchain service.

Industry Update:
Come hear about the LA Blockchain Lab, its experiences with corporate partners (Lamborghini, Panasonic) and its own initiatives (Shark Tank, theme-based events). Ben will also share insights into his day-to-day work, where he tracks the global development of the STO market, as well as the Lab’s experience in launching its first STO product. Q&A to follow.

Ben is currently a co-founder and the CFO of LA Blockchain Lab. He is also a Managing Partner at Wave Financial, a crypto focused asset management firm. Ben has 15 years of traditional finance experience across Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taipei, with 12 of that on the trading floor with Merrill Lynch as head of structured products and then as CEO of Asia commodities. He also spent nearly 3 years with AllianceBernstein as head of Alternative Investments in Asia. He has an MBA from UCLA, and a BS from UC Berkeley.

Meeting will be the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering at USC. EEB Room 132.

Guests can park at any metered parking off of Vermont Avenue and 36th street. Parking is free after 7pm.
