What we're about

The Purpose of the Group

To encourage people with an interest in facilitation to meet together across the island of Ireland for networking, learning and mutual support.

Who should join?

Anybody with an interest in group process facilitation, including facilitators and others who use or commission facilitation. Members of IAF (the International Association of Facilitators) and non-members are equally welcome.

Why?

Facilitation is the art of "making things easier" for a group to achieve its desired results. Every meeting or process that is facilitated has an impact on the individuals and the groups of which they are a part. Good facilitation can change the way people think and act, and ultimately support them to positively change the world around them.

Facilitation is relatively new as a profession, but it is emerging in ever new and diverse settings. Some facilitators run their own companies, providing facilitation services on contract, some work full time as facilitators in companies, universities, or non profit organisations. Many people do facilitation without thinking or describing themselves as facilitators.

Ireland & UK facilitators virtual coffee meetup

Link visible for attendees

Join our monthly virtual coffee meetup in partnership between IAF England & Wales, IAF Scotland and Ireland, for informal networking and facilitation chat from the comfort of your own home or desk, from 11am-12 noon on the 3rd Tuesday of each month - all welcome, bring your own coffee!

To see who has RSVPd from elsewhere, check out our sister meetup groups - Scotland and England and Wales, for links, see https://www.iaf-world.org/site/chapters/england-wales.

We meet in Zoom - for details of how to join a Zoom meeting, see https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-Joining-a-Meeting

For the best experience for everyone, please join from a quiet location and with a fast, wired internet connection if you can; and with a webcam and a headset (in preference to built-in mic & speakers) in order to reduce interference and noise.

Our virtual coffee meetups are not recorded, however screenshots may be shared and the meeting room is publicly accessible, so please do not share data in the chat that you would not want publicly accessible.

Those who are able are encouraged to stay on for a few minutes after the meetup to record some audio snippets for our fortnightly IAFpodcast Facilitation Stories - for example, feedback on the day's virtual meetup or on other meetups, a response to issues raised in a previous podcast episode, or a facilitation story of your own. For more on the podcast check out http://facilitationstories.libsyn.com/ and on twitter @Fac_Stories.

Please share online (before, during & after!) with the hashtag #IAFMeetup.

IAF Ireland online networking & learning meetup

Link visible for attendees

Join us for our monthly Networking & Learning meetup ONLINE, on the 4th Friday of every other month. This is our regular slot.

If there is sufficient interest we can also add some additional sessions on areas of interest.

These meetups allow time and space for us to demonstrate, practice and experiment with our facilitation together, and share feedback on that, as well as share presentations and support through discussion. So we suggest some combination each time of these four key elements:

• introductions, followed by discussion to follow up on whatever emerges of common interest

• short presentations from one or two of those present, followed by questions and discussion

• one or two longer facilitated sessions, followed by feedback and discussion on the process as well as the content

  • an opportunity for 2 or 3 of those present to share a current challenge or issue that they are struggling with, to receive questions, feedback or advice in return.

Please let us know in a comment below if you are prepared to share a presentation, facilitate a session, or bring a challenge or issue for us to respond to.

Please share a review on the group page afterwards, to let others know how you found the meetup - and please use the hashtag #IAFMeetup (https://twitter.com/hashtag/iafmeetup) on social media before, during & after the meetup!
