Messaging fun with Raspberry Pi, IoT, and MQTT

Messaging fun with Raspberry Pi, IoT, and MQTT

Details

In this workshop, you will be taught how to program and connect Raspberry Pis to an MQTT broker and pass messages between them.

The workshop will include an introduction to MQTT, and after some experimentation with the technologies, we will begin some fun group activities to demonstrate the application of IoT pub/sub technologies.

We will be providing a Raspberry Pi 0 with sensors and an E-Ink screen (which must be returned at the end of the workshop). We only have a limited number of devices (15), so we'll be asking people to pair up with their fellow attendees to complete the workshop.

You will need:

A laptop with a modern OS (Windows / macOS / Linux)
A modern web browser (Firefox / Edge / Chrome)
