Welcome to 2014 and our very first Business Analytics User Group meeting for the year!

We hope you are all refreshed and geared up for an exciting year ahead in Business Analytics and we look forward in catching up next month.

4.40pm Special Guest Colin Shearer, IBM Global Executive Advanced Analytics

Colin Shearer is IBM's Global Executive for Advanced Analytic Solutions. Based in IBM UK, Colin is in Melbourne for one day and we have the privilege to have Colin spend some time with us.

Colin co-founded Integral Solutions Ltd. (ISL) in 1989. A pioneer of data mining in the early 1990s, he was the creator and architect of ISL's award-winning Clementine system (now IBM SPSS Modeler) and led a team which tackled numerous successful predictive analytics projects in areas including finance, broadcasting, market research and defence. SPSS was acquired by IBM in October 2009, and Colin moved to his current position in January 2012.

Colin is a frequent speaker at events around the world, and meets with many IBM clients to share his experience and knowledge of the use of advanced analytics and advise them on how best to leverage this technology in their business. Come hear Colin as he speaks of his latest thoughts around advanced analytics.

5.10pm Department of State Development, Business and Innovation – Integrated Planning and Reporting

The Corporate Services Group within the Department of State Development, Business and Innovation will present on how they transformed the budgeting, planning and reporting functions through the implementation of an integrated solution using IBM Business Analytics.

5.55pm Does Change Management Matter?

Drawing on multiple experiences during the implementation of various BI solutions at Simplot Australia, this presentation contrasts the implementation of Business Intelligence Capability withouta focus on Change Management with the success and adoption of a Business Intelligence solution when considered Change Management and Transition Planning is incorporated. The discussion will cover the difference in business uptake and significant business value that can result from the inclusion of explicit and comprehensive Change Management into a significant BI Project.
