Automatic Speech Recognition: Hidden Markov Models and Deep Learning

An overview of the state-of-the-art in automatic speech recognition (ASR) will be provided along with an introduction to Hidden Markov Models. It will be explained how ASR evolved through the decades and how it not only got transformed by deep learning, but it also validated deep learning for the mainstream. Finally, a discussion of the deep learning models used in most recent speech recognition breakthroughs will be provided.
