Overview : Learn how the IBM POWER9 AC922 Server with PowerAI is currently being used in order to assist medical clinicians and pathologists in their efforts to perform deeper level review of biomedically captured image scans. Abstract : High quality delineation of important features is critical in biomedical image interpretation for accurate diagnosis and disease assessment. Deep Learning (DL) techniques, specifically Convolutions Neural Networks (CNNs), have proven to be highly successful in image classification and segmentation tasks, potentially promising higher throughput and more consistent results in biomedical image interpretation. Researchers at the Imaging and Visualization Group (IVG) at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) are working with NCI and FNLCR imaging laboratories to develop Deep Learning based image segmentation workflows aiming to streamline image interpretation in cancer and biomedical research. Dr. Yanling Liu will introduce IVG projects such as DL based tumor segmentation for preclinical cancer models on MRI images and DL based quantification of H&E stained digital pathology images. Speaker : Dr. Yanling Liu received his PhD degree in Computer Science from the George Mason University. Dr. Yanling Liu leads the Imaging and Visualization Group at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research to develop scientific software, workflow, and algorithms to derive quantitative information from biomedical images. His research interests include 3D biomedical visualization, image segmentation, image registration, machine learning and deep learning.
