Buffalo Creek MTB Ride
Amy Griggs will be our ride leader. Take Hwy 285 South to Pine Junction. Drive south on Hwy 126 to Buffalo Creek. There is a sharp right on FS543. The parking lot is on the left about 50 yards down the road. If you go through Buffalo Creek and drive up the hill you've gone too far. This ride is suitable for mountain bikes only. It is not too technical but has length and some loose gravel. If you want to car pool meet in front of The Fort at 7:20 am. To get to The Fort take Hwy 285, 1 1/2 miles south of C470 and exit Hwy 8 Morrison/Evergreen. The Fort is about 50 yards north of the intersection. Otherwise, meet at Buffalo Creek at 8:15 am and we'll ride at 8:30 am. Who shows will determine the route we will take. Most riders will take FS543 around 5 miles to Gashouse for a warm up. We'll climb 3.4 miles on Gashouse to Charlie's Cutoff. Charlie's Cutoff is a 1.3 mile fun downhill section before taking the 2.6 mile descent on Sandy Wash back to the parking lot. Overall ride is around 15 miles (given the few short unnamed connections). More advanced riders can take Nice Kitty to the Colorado Trail, down Tramway and hook up with Gashouse, Charlie's Cutoff and Sandy Wash. Jefferson County restricts groups to 8. If we end up with more than 8 folks, we'll need to split into separate groups that don't exceed 8 per group. Remember to bring food, water, spare tube & air in case a flat needs to be repaired. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains so be prepared in case it rains or temperature drops.
