Discord link: https://discord.gg/nnMJYw6 Since we won't be able to meet up for physical games for a while longer, we're planning to get together for some online board games for anyone who's interested. We plan on facilitating games using two different platforms. Board game arena (BGA) and tabletop simulator (TTS). Board game arena is a browser based game and can be used on phone, tablet or computer. It is free to join and quite easy to get started. Some games are reserved for premium users but you can still play them if you are invited to play a game by a premium user and many action league members are already subscribed. The price is quite low and can be as little as €2 a month depending on which subscription you choose. There is no obligation to subscribe though, many games are free. Tabletop simulator is a Steam game which allows you to create servers that can host games based on different mods. It simulates a 3D area where you can move pieces and cards like in a real game, and can be a little unintuitive or run into errors, but is more flexible and there are plenty of tutorials on youtube etc. Everyone must own the game and it costs €20, though is often on sale or available as a multi pack. Once you are subscribed to a mod (they are free) in the tabletop simulator workshop on steam you can make a table of any game you like. Communication will be organised via a discord server. There will be several different chat channels representing tables for people to join and a main lobby. The lobby channel will be TEXT ONLY and allow people to discuss what they want to play and break off into different channels. In the other channels you can remain in a text chat or use a voice call, please make it clear if you prefer one or the other though so no one joins a game and then gets left out of the conversation. We ask that you add which gaming platforms you want to play on in your discord nickname, Please add BGA or TTS to the end of your name to indicate you want to play on BGA or TTS, or BOTH if you have both and no preference. If you do have a preference, we also ask that you make your nickname your username on that particular platform, this will help people add friends and get into games faster. Due to the sheer volume of games available between both of these platforms we can no longer commit to being able to teach the rules to everything. If there is a game that you particularly want to play then we ask that you get familiar with how it runs on BGA or TTS, and be willing to teach it to others. Though of course there will be people who are available to answer questions about games that we regularly play at Action League, we do ask that you get familiar with the software before joining on a Monday night and have a look at some games that you might be interested in. While both platforms are quite straightforward we would like to say up front that the Action League organisers are not paid and we are not technical support agents. We will absolutely help if you are having trouble getting set up but there will be some things which we won’t be able to help with. It is everyone’s own responsibility to have accounts set up before the event, and to be familiar with how the programs work. If you plan on attending, please take the time to do this before the event starts so that everyone can get into and play games as seamlessly as possible. Finally, there will be moderators in the discord who can ban users. We ask that you do not spam any of the chats and are polite to other users. We also reserve the right to remove anyone who we consider to be acting inappropriately. If you feel that another player is making you uncomfortable then please let us know via facebook or meetup immediately.
