IGDA NH Present: Jonathan Linowes - Bridging multi-device VR/AR in Unity
About the talk: In this talk Jonathan will discuss the problems of project fragmentation in VR / AR projects which target multiple devices and platforms. The ecosystem is plagued with a tangle of devices, platforms and toolkits. Unity is making efforts to unify low level XR SDK under a set of general API classes. But in practice you must still choose a higher level toolkit to build your app, whether that’s SteamVR Interaction System, Daydream Elements, Mixed Reality Toolkit, ARCore, ARKit for Unity, VRTK, and so on. In response, Parkerhill built a solution, BridgeXR toolkit for Unity, which is an in-editor SDK manager. With BridgeXR you can use multiple high level toolkits in the same project, toolkits you already know and trust— past, present and future— while remaining device-independent. About the presenter: Jonathan Linowes is founder of Parkerhill Reality Labs, a New Hampshire based immersive media indie studio and developer of the BridgeXR toolkit, Power Solitaire VR game, and upcoming Chess Or Die game. He is a VR/AR evangelist, Unity developer, entrepreneur, and teacher. Jonathan has a BFA degree from Syracuse University, an MS degree from the MIT Media Lab, and held technical leadership positions at Autodesk and other companies. He is author of Unity Virtual Reality Projects (second edition due June 2018) and co-author Augmented Reality for Developers (2017) books available on Amazon.
