The high cost of free power
Details
You may have heard it said that engineering is all about tradeoffs. Usually this discussion leads to talk of Big-O notation and worst case complexity or memory vs cpu bounds. If you've heard all this before (or if your eyes are glazing over) this talk is different. David will present an aspect of tradeoffs that is rarely discussed relating to the power of our languages. Is it possible that your programming language is too powerful? Could you actually gain a different kind of power by trading computational power for something else?
Note to our non-programmer members: While code will be shown this is a fairly conceptual talk and some might just apply to your own discipline(s) as well.
