A day conference for developers, users, and administrators of OpenStack Cloud Software

Whether you want to build the software, run OpenStack, grow the community or just learn more about it, there will be content, workshops and design sessions for you to attend Nov 20th in Tel Aviv.

08:00 – 09:00 Gathering

09:00 – 09:45 Intro & State of OpenStack & Updates from OpenStack Summit San Diego

Jonathan Bryce
Executive Director at OpenStack Foundation

- Overview of compute, storage and networking projects
- Update from Folsom Design Summit & Conference
- Roadmap, major deployments and milestones

Recent Interview with Jonathan Bryce:
How the OpenStack project takes a democratic approach to win support for its open source work.

09:45 - 10:15 Using OpenStack in Production - LivePerson Case Study

Koby Holzer
Live Person is running OpenStack in their production, across multiple data centers.
In this session you would learn from that experience the tips and lessons on how to deploy OpenStack as well as how Puppet has been integrated in this environment to simplify the deployment and configuration process.
Koby Holzer
System & Storage Engineers Group Leader @ LivePerson

10:15 - 10:45 Automating your OpenStack environment with Chef, Puppet and Cloudify

In this session we will learn how you can use configurtion tools like Chef and Puppet to setup your openstack environment and Cloudify to automate the deployment and orchestration of applications and services on that environment.
Nati Shalom CTO & Founder GigaSpaces

10:45 - 11:15 End-To-End Mellanox SDN solution

The new open source cloud orchestration platform called OpenStack is the promise of flexible network virtualization, and network overlays is looking close more than ever. The vision of this platform is to enable the on-demand creation of many distinct networks on top of one underlying physical infrastructure in the cloud environment and support automated provisioning and management of large groups of virtual machines or compute resources, including extensive monitoring in the cloud. There is still much work to be done, as many concerns raises around the efficiency and simplicity of the management for the compute and storage resources. A mature solution will need to consider different approaches to interact within the intra server provisioning, QoS and vNIC management by leaning on local network adapters that are capable of managing the requests by utilizing OpenFlow protocol for example, or to use a more standard approach managed by the switch. Using only one method, might create performance and efficiency penalties. In this session we will discuss new and innovative methods that can enable an end-to-end solution and management of the cloud that can then unleash the true power of this new promise.
Yaron Haviv, VP of Data Centers Solutions, Mellanox

11:15 - 11:45 Coffee break – networking

11:45 - 12:15 OpenStack Storage – new and upcoming from IBM Research

OpenStack block storage just became a first class OpenStack citizen in Folsom. IBM is a Platinum member of the OpenStack Foundation, and IBM is already showing its support for OpenStack. The Folsom release now includes Nova-volume and Cinder drivers for IBM XIV, Storwize V3700, V7000 and SAN Volume Controller. We will present IBM block storage support for OpenStack and key Storage features that IBM Research is focused on. IBM is also supporting SWIFT, and contributed the CDMI interface, a standard-based object storage interface. IBM Research is innovating in cloud storage through the VISION Cloud European project, and has developed new capabilities such as advanced meta-data and search, computational storage and WAN-based deduplication.
Ronen Kat, IBM Research Laboratory in Haifa

12:15 - 12:45 OpenStack Essex on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS under VirtualBox workshop

The best way to get an insight into OpenStack is playing with a live installation, but OpenStack's simplest configuration requires 2 network interfaces, e.g. 2 machines, each equipped with 2 network cards and an additional ethernet hub. Using VirtualBox we can set up a full OpenStack installation on a single laptop or desktop. This approach is very appealing and there's a number of guides that describe it. This guide is a compilation of those sources (credited below) with the necessary updates and fixes.
Ori Tzoran, DevOps Senior Engineer @ "Tikal Knowledge"

12:45 - 13:15 Using OpenStack as a defacto standard for Cloud API

CloudBand® Northbound API - OpenStack compatibility and special extensions

Avi Vachnis, Web Services Team Leader, CloudBand™, Alcatel-Lucent

13:15 - 14:00 Speakers Experts Panel
Moderator: Nati Shalom: Topic - The future of OpenStack

Ronen Kat, IBM
Omri Siri, LivePerson
Yaron Haviv, VP of Data Centers Solutions, Mellanox
