Inaugural Charity Hackathon

Hey Everyone!

Saturday is getting near so I wanted to update everyone with more details as promised!

REMINDER:
The location of the event is going to be:

3200 Park center drive Costa Mesa Ca 92626

Easy Free parking is available at South Coast Plaza.

Doors will open at 10 am; Info session and team organization will occur at 10:30 am; and Start time will be 11 am sharp.

Of course, there will be food, drinks, and coffee available for everyone volunteering.

The following are the charities that will be participating:

Dreams For Schools (https://dreamsforschools.org)

A totally amazing organization that follows right in line with what IPAs and APIs is about. Dreams for Schools is a 501(c)(3) that oversees programs and initiatives that contribute to educating youth about Science, Technology, Engineering & Math fields. The main outreach program of the organization is the AppJam+ initiative, which we will be helping to support!

Handicapped Scuba Association (http://hsascuba.com)

Made up of over 4000 underwater educators, scuba divers with disabilities, and supporting members located in over 45 countries, the Handicapped Scuba Association is dedicated to assuring that people with disabilities are given the same opportunity to receive quality training, certification, and dive adventures as the able-bodied population.

American Parkinson's Disease Association (https://www.apdaparkinson.org/)

The American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) is the largest grassroots network dedicated to fighting Parkinson’s disease (PD) and works tirelessly to assist more than 1 million Americans with Parkinson’s disease live life to the fullest in the face of this chronic, neurological disorder.

Sign up deadline is April 14th....this is a very hard deadline. We will need to know the size of our group in order to plan for space, food, and other important accommodations.

This will be a fully sponsored event! YAY! So, there will be plenty of food and beverages provided to satiated your brain and belly throughout the day (beverages include coffee, tea, and beer...food is TBA).

The important thing is to have fun with each other and hopefully create a few things that will benefit local non-profit communities.

........... More about why we are doing this .............
Over the course of our three year existence we've always prioritized helping out the developer community in Orange County. Whether that is by providing information about new tech, having a venue to meet other developers, or by helping line up people with career opportunities (and of course introducing people to some of the best breweries in the world).

As the group has grown we have continued to look for more opportunities to give back to the community and about 3-4 months ago during an Q/A regarding future meetups the idea for a Hackathon was proposed... and furthermore it was suggested that we attempt to use the hackathon as an opportunity to give back.
