It's time for another IRE Chicago Meetup!

Details
IRE Chicago meetups are BACK! And since it's summer, we're taking our investigative reporting and socializing to the rooftop!
Last year, the Chicago Reporter (http://www.chicagoreporter.com) released Settling for Misconduct (http://projects.chicagoreporter.com/settlements/), the first-ever comprehensive database of police misconduct settlements paid out by the city of Chicago. This week, the Reporter will be adding two more years of data, for a total of 6 years worth of lawsuits against CPD (costing more than $280 million) that are now available to the public. We'll be joined by database reporter Jonah Newman and data editor Matt Kiefer, who will talk about how they built Settling for Misconduct, some of the challenges they faced, and why police accountability and fiscal accountability go hand in hand. (Settling for Misconduct was recognized with an IRE Award (http://ire.org/awards/ire-awards/winners/2016-ire-award-winners/#.WTW9M2grLIW) for Innovation in Investigative Journalism.)
Join us on the rooftop at the Plymouth bar and restaurant (327 S. Plymouth Ct., between Jackson and Van Buren) on June 13, for the next IRE Chicago Meetup!
