What we're about

The purpose of this group is to get people together for hands-on learning about plant identification. It will remain within Toronto and be TTC accessible, with an occasional exception. I will try to create a mix of available times for events; some weekends, some weekdays, some afternoons, some evenings.

You should join this group if you want to learn about local plants. You should also join this group if you have knowledge of local plants that you would like to share.

I am at an intermediate level of local plant knowledge. There is a lot that I don't know. I will try to answer as many question as possible about plants but I encourage everyone to bring their own plant and tree identification books so that we can all learn together! I will bring a selection of my own books to each and every event.

You can also join our Facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/543563029520168/ , which is also called Immersive Botany: Toronto Tree and Plant Identification Club.

Now on instagram too! https://www.instagram.com/immersivebotany/

It is not enough to know the names of plants. You have to have opportunities to use those words and commit the plants to memory.

Lower Don River Trail @ Pottery road

Pottery Road

CA$5.00

We will be meeting at the entrance to the Lower Don River Trail from Pottery road. We will begin on the South side, where the Bike Share station is, and walk south from the starting point.

Please note, this event is longer than usual and will be 3 hours instead of the standard 2 hours. If we get far enough, we will reach the gargoyles that can be seen when going across the Bloor Viaduct, on the Subway and looking North. I would like to end at Riverdale Park East.

This event will be a one-way walk, ending at a different place then where we started. If you are driving to the event and have something planned afterwards, please keep in mind that you will have to walk back to your car (30-60 minutes). And if you are driving to the event, please give yourself enough time to park and find the group (the closest parking lot is probably at the Todmorden Mills Heritage Site).

If you are coming by TTC, the best way is probably from Broadview Avenue, then walking down Pottery Road.

The cost for this event will be $5. Bring 1 guest free of charge. After attending 5 events, you will become an official plant enthusiast for which you will receive an awesome club pin!

Payments for events can now be done in advance with PayPal. Any payments received for events not attended by the payer will be applied as payment for next event that the payer attends. Otherwise, cash can paid upon arrival at the event being attended.

Bring your plant and tree identification guide if you have one, and if you don't have one, the library is a great place to try some out! Plant ID apps are also welcome.
