Update: Yoga will be offered at the retreat. We will have a guest yoga teacher from the Chicago area leading yoga exercises. Retreat participants will have the option of the yoga session or walking meditation during one of the meditation periods. If interested, please bring a yoga mat.
For the third consecutive year, internationally known Buddhist teacher, Shaila Catherine will lead a day program/retreat in Indianapolis. The retreat will be held on Saturday, November 4th at All Souls Unitarian Church from 10 AM to 5 PM. The theme is: "Relax, Let Go, Keep Trying."
"Balanced and skillful effort is a vital meditative skill. This daylong program will cultivate relaxation, letting go, and persistence as we learn how a gentle, diligent effort supports the deepening of concentration and insight."
Shaila teaches meditation internationally. She founded Insight Meditation South Bay, a Buddhist meditation center in Silicon Valley (www.imsb.org), and Bodhi Courses (bodhicourses.org), an online Dhamma classroom. She has been practicing meditation since 1980, accumulating more than eight years of silent retreat experience, and has taught internationally since 1996. Shaila studied with masters in India, Thailand, and Nepal, and also with the founders of western meditation centers. She is the author of two highly acclaimed books on concentration and insight—Focused and Fearless: A Meditator’s Guide to States of Deep Joy, Calm, and Clarity, and Wisdom Wide and Deep: A Practical Handbook for Mastering Jhāna and Vipassanā.
Registration Fee: Sliding scale of 40 to 85 dollars. registration includes catered vegetarian lunch. No refunds except if organizers have to cancel the event. Registration fees help with Shaila's travel expenses from California, dana to All Souls, and other organizing and promotional expenses.
Lunch cannot be guaranteed unless the Retreat Manager receives your registration by Wednesday, November 2nd, by 12 Noon.
No one shall be turned away but you must apply to the Retreat Manager for financial need scholarships.
Registration Fee does not include dana for the teacher. Traditionally, Buddhist teachings are free, and beyond price. Only the donor can decide what he or she will voluntarily give to the teacher to support her practice and livelihood.
Pre-Registration is recommended. You do not have to be a member of, or sign up with Indianapolis Buddhist Meditation Retreats to attend this event. Many participants come from outside of the meetup community. Everyone is welcome to attend.
RSVP is encouraged but note that your place in the retreat is not secured until your payment is received. Please send your registration as soon as you decide to attend.
