Event-driven or streaming architectures can help unlock your organization’s data for use in new application and analytics and move from batch oriented to real time data processing. Kafka provides unique capabilities to enable this architecture and Spring Cloud Stream provides a great abstraction to build applications on these real time data streams. In this talk I will give an overview of this architectural style including common patterns, the features of Kafka, and a demonstration of building a streaming application using Spring Cloud Stream.

Speaker Bio
Dan Gradl has been providing technical leadership in software engineering for 20 years. Currently he is a Sr Principal Engineer with The Finish Line, Inc. in Indianapolis where he is responsible for providing technical direction for application delivery and leads the platform engineering team. Prior to this he has played a variety of senior engineering and architecture roles in Retail, Logistics, and Finance. He has previously spoken at the Indy Java User Group on several occasions. In his personal time, he enjoys spending time with his five kids, board gaming, and running obstacle course races.
