Trustless Authentication & Decentralized Identity

Details
In our first Innovating with Smart Contracts meetup, we’ll cover an introduction to the smart contract language DAML, and hear from NuID, a company that is using DAML to support their trustless authentication and decentralized identity solution. Learn how NuID has leveraged DAML and why using zero knowledge proofs (ZKP), smart contracts, and blockchain helps eliminate the risk of a credential data breach and gives users greater ownership over their digital identities.
This event will be geared towards both technical and non-technical folks interested in smart contracts, decentralized applications, or digital identity.
Advance registration with first name and last name is required so that you can be added to the building visitor list. Please bring valid photo ID.
Agenda
5:45 - 6:00: Grab some pizza and a drink and get settled in.
6:00 - 6:30: Intro to DAML smart contracts and Q&A with Levente Barczy & Manish Grover from Digital Asset.
6:30 - 7:15: NuID overview and live demo with co-founders Locke Brown and Nolan Smith.
7:15 - 7:45: Questions, drinks, networking.
More Details
DAML is an open source smart contracts language and a privacy-aware runtime created by Digital Asset. DAML abstracts away platform complexities by offering an overarching ledger model, and has built-in rights, obligations, and privacy guarantees.
NuID is a startup that has created a trustless authentication and decentralized identity solution that uses zero knowledge cryptography and DLT to eliminate centralized credential storage and breaches.
Today, user authentication primarily relies on what is known as the “shared secret” model. Users’ private authentication secrets—usually passwords and related information—are shared with the companies and software they log into. All this sharing has unfortunately made those secrets, well, not so secret. Hackers and cyber criminals target credential databases and use the stolen data to commit fraud and identity theft. Trustless authentication promises to change this and put the control back in the users hands.
In their talk and demo, Locke and Nolan will cover how ZKP and blockchain enable trustless authentication, why businesses and developers can benefit from this new approach to identity, and how to deploy NuID + DAML.
