Insight Meditation is a type of meditation rooted in the Buddha's teachings. The goal set forth by the Buddha is the liberation of the heart and mind from stress and suffering, and the difficulties we set for ourselves. The means to reaching this goal is to develop an understanding of how our minds work, and what we are doing that makes things harder for ourselves. By cultivating a meditation practice, a process naturally unfolds through which we gain insight into ourselves, how we relate to ourselves, to others, to our experiences, and how we can make choices and conduct ourselves in way that replace difficulty with ease, sorrow with joy, and agitation with peace. Through this process of gradual awakening and liberation, we can get in touch with a happiness that does not depend on external circumstances, but wells up from within. This is a study and practice group of peers interested in meditating and exploring the teachings of the Buddha and applying it to our lives to bring about profound transformation and healing.
We meet every Sunday, online for the duration of the pandemic. First of the month will be an introduction to insight meditation and the Buddha's teachings. Every other week, we start with half an hour of meditation, followed by a Dharma talk and discussion.
