Welcome to Insight Meditation Scottsdale! We practice in the Western Buddhist Vipassana 'tradition' as taught by Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg. These teachers brought to the West the teachings of Theravada Masters from the Thai Forrest and Burmese traditions. Our sitting group meets from 7-8:30pm on Monday evenings in South Scottsdale. We also offer daylong retreats and occasional longer, non-residential retreats taught by visiting senior teachers in the Western Vipassana tradition.

On Monday nights we offer a 40 minute sit, followed by a short dharma talk and facilitated dharma discussion led by Genevieve Tregor. Genevieve has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 2008 and has spent over a year in intensive retreat, including multiple long practice periods of 6 to 9 weeks.

All are welcome. This group is supported entirely by 'Dana (http://www.insightmeditationcenter.org/books-articles/articles/dana-in-the-western-insight-meditation-movement/)', or the practice of generosity; everyone is welcome to attend and offer whatever feels meaningful in their heart, according to their own circumstances. The opportunity to sit together and hear the dharma is considered priceless.

We meet from 7:00- 8:30 pm every Monday night to practice meditation in the Buddhist tradition. Our meditation style is 'Vipassana' which is also known widely as Mindfulness Meditation. Typically, our Monday group numbers between 25-35 meditators, although many regulars do not use Meetup to RSVP.

We have a 40 minute silent sit with a brief guidance in Mindfulness practice at the beginning and guided 'Metta' (Lovingkindness practice) at the end, followed by a dharma talk (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharma_talk) and facilitated discussion on the Buddha dharma and its relevance to our meditation and daily life practice.

Our Monday night sit is freely offered and our group is supported entirely by donation or 'Dana', which is the Buddhist Pali term for generosity; the teachings of the Buddha have been supported for over 2500 years by the tradition of Dana.
