What are the sacred, the profane, and the supernormal? Where and when do these concepts show up in contemporary culture, and how do they relate to Game B? In this online dialectic, we will review ideas put forth by Jordan Hall in his 2018 Deep Code video series. We will examine how these differing phenomena exist in today’s cultural and social contexts, and imagine how the sacred and profane might be newly categorized outside of a strictly religious frame. We will also examine the phenomena of supernormal stimuli, and analyze whether humans can create personal sovereignty within a media culture that exploits our body’s own biological imperative to seek this form of stimuli.
