We train the Chu Shong Tin method of Wing Chun. Chu Shong Tin was renowned for being able to issue tremendous power using virtually no muscle (see first link below which is a youtube clip of him). The focus of this method is learning how to stand, issuing force effortlessly, learning how to relax joints and learn how force works. This method is incredibly profound and has many levels of depth.
What do sessions look like?
We will do some standing meditation (called "Nim Tao" practice), structure testing, forms and chi sao (sticky hands practice with a partner). See youtube links below to get a sense of what we do and how we practice.

Hello, I am fascinated in internal martial arts and am hoping to start a study group of like minded people.
My idea of internal martial arts lacks any mysticism, but is grounded in physics and body mechanics. To me it is about fine tuning and maximising gravity, alignment, correct movement, relaxation and mental intent. Correctly done this will result in unusually high levels of power and being able to overcome muscular force from a partner.
My personal inspiration and interest is in wing chun (with an internal focus) and the Aunkai method. However, your own input and interests are most welcome. I consider myself a beginner. My desire to form a group is to further my own internal martial arts understanding and skill together with like minded people.
The purpose of this group is to learn together and develop subtle body mechanic skills and understanding. The specific focus will be on practices that build body unity and connectedness. Most importantly, all drills should be done in an ego free way. We need to come from a place of curiosity and reason to discover body principals together.
The sorts of partner work we will focus on may be almost completely application or technique free. This means that there will be little to no focus on attack and defence scenarios.
This would be a casual meetup in a relaxed and open environment. No class structure, fees or affiliations etc. Just come for a visit. You can stick around for a few hours or a few minutes.
People with no martial art backgrounds are also welcome. We will be looking at concrete, direct and no nonsense drills to develop and realise body principals. Most drills will incorporate some sort of resistance by a partner in order for us to find ways to avoid local muscle use. The following practices may be incorporated:
- Static standing push out (legs locked straight) - Active push out (can move legs up and down) - Walking forward with hands pressed against partner's hands. - Single hand push hands - Double hand push hands (I have never done this, but understand it to be an important partner drill in other internal arts. I would welcome someone to teach us how this should be done!) - Chi sao with forward pressure - Walking forward while partner pushes against chest - Structural tests e.g. moving the limbs in certain ways against resistance.
Please indicate interest on this page or the Facebook page.
