What we're about
Are you an experienced world traveler who likes to visit off the beaten path, unusual locations? Do you try to interact with locals whenever possible to gain cross cultural understanding? Do you travel to feel alive, get out of your comfort zone, have new experiences and discover new parts of yourself and the world? Are you known as "the traveler(s)" in your circle of friends?
We are a well-traveled, thoughtful and intentional couple who loves to visit new places every year. We have both done solo round-the-world trips, and now that we are together, we are intentionally building a life around traveling 2-3 months a year. We started this meetup to swap stories and ideas with other like minded travelers here in Denver. As a result of often being asked if we were going to do any group travel, we decided to start Toward Awakening Travel. (http://towardawakeningtravel.com/)
Our interests are super varied and include scuba diving (liveaboards), traveling by bike, volunteering while traveling, hostels with a fancy hotel thrown in every once in awhile, homestays, backpacking, unique cultural experiences, celebrations, festivals, food...
Singles or couples welcome. Bring your curiosity and your tips!
Here is what you can expect at a typical meeting...
At the previous meeting we have voted on a destination or method of travel for a presentation at the next meetup. We solicit the member community to find out who has visited the destination or feels adept at the selected style of travel. Those members give a 10 minute talk on the topic and then there is an additional 10 minutes for questions and answers. This is called the Destination Showcase.
Next we have a Member Spotlight. Before the meetup we pick a member and provide them a short list of questions to ponder. At the meetup we ask them the questions. Tada! Don't worry; The members volunteer to be in the spotlight. It isn't a requirement. The purpose is to help facilitate getting to know each other and learn more about each others passions and interests.
The final structured part is titled Travel Tips and Tricks. We take some time to share our accumulated experiences with a topic and then compile the notes for everyone to reference. Some topics are 'What are your favorite travel apps?' and 'What are the best credit cards that offer airline miles?'. That kind of stuff.
All of this takes about 90min. The rest of the time is to mingle, talk and get all wound up to head to DIA and get on the next flight to somewhere exotic and fun!!!
We hope to see you there!
