Voting Systems & Real-world Software Performance & Design in the Gaming Industry

Details
Hello all,
I would like to welcome you all to the May Meetup of KW Intersections. In this Meetup we will have two talks again. One of the talks will be my Mark Sherry about Voting Systems and the other talk will be by Brian Keron and will be about real-world software and performance design based on examples from the gaming industry. I will also announce the location of the Meetup later.
Voting Systems: or, Why We Can't Have Nice Things by Mark Sherry
Voting is often used as a way for groups to make decisions. The simplest method, First Past The Post, is easy to implement and easy to understand, but is otherwise highly flawed, with risks like vote splitting. But what are the alternatives, what trade-offs do they have to make, and why are there no silver bullets?
Real-world software performance and design in the Gaming Industry by Brian Keron
The purpose of this presentation is to examine real-world software performance and design, as given by examples from the gaming industry. These examples will include graphics and sound systems from a variety of console and PC platforms will be described. Lessons learned from their development, whether that development proceeded poorly or well, will be examined.
