Programmers - You can do IoT, too! ๐ค๐พ
Details
IoT is one of the hottest Buzzwords in the industry, and for a good reason. Physical objects around us are getting smarter and smarter, gathering information about our environment, communicating with one another, and enabling us to monitor and control machines from afar.
But what does real-life IoT solutions look like under the hood? It turns out that most IoT systems have a lot in common - they shared a very similar architecture. In this meetup, we will have a look at some real-world examples and learn the underpinning principles that every smart device maker needs to take into account when designing their solutions.
Big thank you to Cloudinary for hosting our meetup this time! ๐
Event Agenda:
18:30 - Meet, and have some snacks
19:00 - IoT Architecture Overview & Real Life Examples of IoT Devices
19:45 - Let's Build Something Together! (with JavaScript)
20:30 - You play with the IoT Devices we brought
๐ถ IoT Architecture Overview - Danfa Mordechai ๐ถ
Gone are the days when a watch just shows the time. Devices around us are getting "smarter" every single day: baby monitors, switches, light bulb, air conditioning, fitness tracking devices, security cameras - you name it. All these devices connect to the cloud and report back, using a variety of protocols such as Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa, Zigbee, NB-IoT and others. The designer of such system has to tackle challenges and limitations such as power consumption, device size, computation power and connectivity.
Dafna will take you through the journey of designing an IoT device, walking through the different consideration and highlighting the common parts of the architecture.
๐ก Real Life Examples of IoT Devices - Dafna Mordechai ๐ก
After we have learned the basics of IoT Device Architecture, we will look at some interesting devices such as fertility monitor, smart pool alarm, GPS tracker and greenhouse sensors and see how the principles come into play in these devices. We are going to bring some of these devices and tinker with them in front of you!
๐ Let's Build Something Together! (with JavaScript) - Dafna Mordechai, Uri Shaked ๐
Once we learned the principles and looked at how other devices apply them, it is time to build our own! We will spent the next 30 minutes building a simple sensor from off-the-shelf components, connecting it to the cloud and closing the loop. To make this more fun, we will take advantage of some new web technologies and JavaScript too. Everything live, of course!
What will we build? Well, that's a surprise. Come and see! ๐
