Come along and join the community

Inspired by the original IoT London meetups, we want to bring together entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, artists and students who are excited by the potential offered by the emerging Internet of Things. We plan to run monthly meetings where two or three speakers from a variety of backgrounds can share their experiences of working with connected technology.

IoT North Meetup - Affordable all-electric taxis + Home automation

Link visible for attendees

IoT North Community meetup are delighted to present to you two fascinating talks: Building electric taxis by Janosch Oppermann and Home automation by Daniel Everitt

Abstract of first talk:

There is huge hunger for EVs, but they are still very expensive, especially niche vehicles such as taxis, buses, ambulances are still lacking in adoption. We are giving cabbies a more affordable option by converting their vehicles to be all-electric, rather than them having to buy a new & expensive hybrid taxi. We iterated fast on our hardware design and have multiple working vehicles that have gone through licensing steps and hold real taxi licenses. This is how we built them.

Bio for first talk: Janosch Oppermann, Co-Founder Clipper Automotive, Software Engineer 10+ yrs turned EV expert

Abstract for second talk: With the world growing smarter and smarter every minute of the day, it's time to automate all these boring tasks: lighting control, heating control and more importantly my children, saving energy and slowly… the planet, one house at a time.

Here we take a rapid look and dip our toes into the home automation world where you can control the common household appliances and save a few minutes a day from automating some simple things around the home and office.

Bio for second talk: Daniel Everitt is a Data Protection Specialist for Proact IT UK located in Chesterfield. Whilst not working you can find him co-hosting dotnetsheff, automating his children, tinkering with a multitude of raspberry pi projects, 3D printing, and visiting as many soft plays whilst his kids are still young.
