Manchester Internet of Things Meetup 1

Join us for drinks and networking at the first Manchester Internet of Things Meetup. There will also be the opportunity to hear from some of the people working on creative and innovative IoT projects in the North West. Speaking on the night will be:

Adrian McEwen : Adrian has been working with the Internet of Things for nearly 10 years, including co-authoring the ‘Designing the Internet of Things’ book (available for purchase here). He is the founder of MCQN Limited, an IoT and digital manufacturing consultancy which helps people unlock the potential of connected devices. However, he may be better known in the UK maker community as one of the founders of the DoES Liverpool community co-working space and workshop.

Vimla Appadoo : Vimla is a Service Designer and Community Manager at FutureEverything, where she is working on Manchester’s £10m CityVerve programme. In this role, she is helping to design the process by which CityVerve will interact with the community so that Manchester’s citizens have a voice in their future smart city. For those interested in getting involved, the next event for the CityVerve community forum will be held on the 30th November. Free tickets are still available via Eventbrite.

Abdul Alim : Abdul is one of the co-founders of OfferMoments, which brings the Internet of Things to the domain of connected, interactive billboard advertising and marketing. In little over two years, the business has gone from a garage in Oldham to recently winning the ‘Pitch at the Palace’ people’s choice award at St James’s Palace. Abdul will be taking us through this journey and giving us an insight into the future of IoT enabled, location based advertising. A peek into the future can already be found at the OfferMoments website.

Again I would like to thank Chris for setting this up, it was insightful seeing what you guys are making of IoT. Apologies for coming over a little strong at times with some of my comments...but IoT by another name is something I have been kicking around since 2003. As an off shoot of my “smart homes” development.

My current project is the central architecture platform needed to tie individual IoT projects together, that we have and is commercially viable. Anyone wishing to learn more PM me.

Oh and a Merry Christmas to you all.

As promised, I've written up links to all the projects I mentioned/showed over on the MCQN Ltd blog -

    Hi Chris,
The map link above takes you to The Studios @ Media City, Salford, where as the venue mentioned is The Landing @ Media City, Salford. I guess it's the latter, in either case one of it needs to be amended.

Thanks for the prompt response. I assume we can use the Media City Car Park for this occasion!

I'm working on that assumption - it's not cheap but looks fairly convenient.

Hi I was interested to attend this but I am already committed to go to another meeting at 8:00 Tuesday, so I cannot attend. Please keep me posted for future events :)

Hi Dave, I've just posted the date for the next event, so if you can't make this one there will be another opportunity in the new year.
