Message from Éamonn Mac Aodha
Ambassador of Ireland

Dear Members of the Irish community & friends of Ireland,
I am taking the liberty to write to you to convey an important message regarding a festival of Irish music and culture – TRADFEST 2016 - which the Embassy of Ireland will stage this year between 7-12 June. This will be the biggest such Irish festival ever to be held in Belgium. To be successful the festival needs you to support it, to attend events and to promote it to your own friends and networks. Over 6 days there will be 70 performers and music experts involved in 40 events (including concerts, pub music sessions, lectures, a book launch, a photo exhibition and language & dance classes) at 20 venues in 7 cities & towns. Leading Irish musicians Kila, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Cór Cúil Aodha, Brú Ború, Fintan Vallely & Compánach and many others will perform. Almost all events are free entry. Several Belgian TV networks and other media have signalled an intention to cover the festival which should ensure tangible benefits for Ireland from the festival in various ways.

There are some particular highlights which I want to draw to your attention at this stage; The headline concert – involving Kila and Perfect Friction - will take place at Flagey, Brussels on 8 June. This free event is now open to the public and you can register through this link; Liam O Maonlai will take to the stage on 9 June at Kraainem’s De Lijsterbes Cultural Centre. You can purchase your ticket to attend via link below (€10 contribution required);

Finally the opening night – being co-hosted at the Northern Ireland Executive Office in Brussels on 7 June – will consist of a reception followed by performances by Fintan Vallely & Compánach and Stonewall. You can register for this event through this link; I urge you to consult the full festival programme which is now available online here and can also be found on Facebook Tradfest Belgium 2016 and on Twitter @TradfestB.

I hope you will take the opportunity to attend these events - and as many other festival events as possible - and I know that together we will make TRADFEST2016 a wonderful success. Go raibh míle maith agaibh. Éamonn Mac Aodha
