Make the change in building a career in STEM today.

In just over 50 years, women entering STEM careers have grown dramatically. Yet despite the increase in areas such as biology and chemistry reaching 39%, women are vastly underrepresented most notably in computing and engineering, a mere 12% in 2013. In addition, research has shown that companies with women in leadership roles do better financially (Forbes, 2014). So what about women who are in STEM careers and in leadership roles?
Join us for an engaging discussion with two keynote speakers who have accomplished both and learn from their experience.

Elizabeth Croft, Associate Dean for Education and Professional Development at the University of British Columbia, is responsible for undergraduate, graduate and professional educational initiatives in Applied Science at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campus. Professor Croft has lead the development and successful launch of eight new professional programs in Engineering, Planning and Health. She served as NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering, BC & Yukon (2010-2015) founding Westcoast Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology (WWEST) to attract, recruit, and retain women in engineering and science careers. Over her tenure as Chair the percentage of women students entering first year engineering at UBC increased from 20% to 30%.

Jean Su, Vice President of Engineering, joined Istuary Innovation Group in December 2015, a Canadian technology company focused on high barrier technologies. Jean brings with her over 15 years of experience in leading strategy and large-scale operations for North American technologies entering the Chinese market. Prior to joining Istuary, Jean was the co-founder and CEO of ClassEntry, an online platform connecting parents with private instructors for extracurricular classes such as sports, music, and arts. She has also held a number of leadership positions at The Active Network in software development, mostly recently as Senior Director of Operations, China where she built a team of 500+ employees in Xi’an, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hong Kong from the ground up. During her tenure at The Active Network, Jean received numerous accolades and awards for her leadership and management skills. She holds an Honours B.Sc. from UBC, MBA from Simon Fraser University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Liberal Arts from Harvard University.
