Italian English Language Social and Cultural Exchange

Join us as we continue a new series of readings in Italian about cultural, historical topics locations in and about Italy. This time we will be reading about the The Abbey of Montecassino

Audience: For English speakers who are learning Italian and are at the intermediate level.

The Plan:

• We will all read the presentation in Italian within smaller groups/breakout rooms.
• We will translate the passages into English.
• We will re-join the main room for discussion and when available listen to an Italian reading on the topic. Our readings will be divided into six sections.

Lido Fortuna is a beach bar in the heart of the Bagnoli district, one of the most vibrant and active in Naples. It is a historical beach that was established in 1891. Easy to reach by car, full availability of parking spot nearby the beach bar; easy to get there by Cumana metro as well, get out at Bagnoli - Città della Scienza station, then 200mt walk toward the sea. Drinks are cheap and Sicilian street food is served in the beach bar. As soon as we get enough participants we will reserve an area there. The event is open air, close to the sea, so covid restrictions or risk mitigation measures apply. Worth seeing at sunset, if anyone gets there before 8 pm, is the Bagnoli north pier, nearby Lido Fortuna (300mt walk).

Join us as we read the acclaimed Italian novel "Io non ho paura" by Niccolò Ammaniti from start to finish. These sessions are designed for Italian language learners at an intermediate level of proficiency.

*** For those joining us midway through these readings, a summary of the prior readings is available if needed (in Italian and English). ***

You do not need to purchase the book - we will share a digital copy on-screen during the meeting. We will gather in small breakout rooms, where each participant will read a short section of the text in Italian. We will help each other with comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar.
