Interaction Design Above The Level Of A Single Man

Details
Join us this month at Tesco’s design offices where we will be exploring "Interaction Design above the level of a single man".
The event is inspired by Russel Davies' post “Software Above the Level of a Single Man (http://russelldavies.typepad.com/planning/2015/06/software-above-the-level-of-a-single-man.html)” — a provocation with amazingly simplicity but very deep in its implications.
The main point we want to discuss discuss is the shift as designers from "design for my phone, for my watch, for my [personal context here]" to "design for our car, our home, our office/workplace, our classroom, our [shared space/context here]".
Because as soon as you move away from the "level of a single man", you have to deal with (and design for) the complexity of “human interactions”. And it's not only a matter of defining personas, contexts, use cases; but also of understanding relationships, hierarchies, “meanings”, emotions.
Are we ready to deal with this change of paradigm? What are the complexities that we have to take into account? Are there already studies, real projects, examples of possible solutions, and what can we learn from them?
The invited speakers will share their experiences and points of view on the subject, and we hope to open a discussion and debate among all the participants.

Speakers:
Claire RowlandIndependent UX/product consultant
Claire is an independent UX and product strategy consultant specializing in the internet of things. She has a particular interest in taking connected products from an early adopter user base to the mass market, and technologies that support mundane, everyday activities.
Before becoming independent, she worked on energy management and home automation products as the service design manager for AlertMe.com, a connected home platform provider.
Previously, she was head of research for design consultancy Fjord, where she led EU funded R&D work investigating the interusability of interconnected embedded devices.
She has worked in UX design and research for mobile, multiplatform and web services since 1997.
Nick CristeaInteractive Design Director and Co-Founder at AllofUs
Nick Cristea feels old. He has been designing interfaces since the dark ages of CD-ROMs back in the mid 1990s when he was head of Multimedia at Nottingham Trent University and has now notched up 22 years of helping clients create new types of interactive products and services.
Trained as a industrial designer at Loughborough University, at a time when there were no jobs for a product designer in the UK, he has no formal training and in his words is no better than average in all of the disciplines. He has however co-founded two of the UK's leading creative and award winning digital agencies - operating as design director for Digit between 1995 and 2003 which he left to establish AllofUs where he now oversees both experience strategy and Design Direction.
Nick has worked with almost all of the major museums in the UK, all the big technology brands and many of the largest entertainment publishers; and has overseen interfaces for mobile devices, set top boxes, games consoles, retail environments, IoT and exhibitions.
Despite being an active speaker on the conference circuit in the early 2000s he now speaks very rarely so may be a little rusty.
