Future Classroom – Can innovative IT inspire a “culture of presence” at school?

Details
What are the major challenges Swedish schools have to deal with and can they be solved by innovative IT solutions? These are the main questions Tieto's project Future Classroom aims to tackle. Under the umbrella of this long-term project, Tieto has conducted several studies in order to identify and define significant problem areas, such as high absence rates, unauthorized visitors on the school premises and administrative overhead. In cooperation with municipalities in Västerbotten as well as students from Umeå University, Tieto has investigated different solutions to those issues and documented the user experience from different perspectives. A lot of weight was put on exploring the potential and pittfalls of surveillance at school. We also looked at ethical and legal aspects relevant in the context of a Swedish school. In the studies, our user-centered design-driven process was adapted to fit the target group and use context.
In this meetup session, we will provide insight into our research about Future Classroom and we would like to invite you to a discussion about user research in the context of schools and the usage of surveillance technology in this environment. We are very interested in your opinion on this topic.
