  • Free Seminar - Your boat buying team
If buying a boat is (part of) your dream, and you plan to act on that some time in the future, you should get educated on how the game is played and who's on your team to help you and who is working against you. On this night you'll have a group of experts including a yacht broker (also part of the BC Yacht Brokers' Association handling professional ethics), a boat finance wizard, a marine surveyor and a marine insurance agent all in one place and ready to talk and answer all your questions. This seminar is open to all, but if you are thinking of buying a boat, you should bring something for the food bank and help someone less fortunate at this time of the year.

  • Free Seminar - Cruising the South Pacific
Alan Boreham is one of the authors of Beer in the Bilges - https://beerinthebilges.wordpress.com/about/ (*) Alan will take you on a virtual recount of some of his adventures in the South Pacific. He put his career on hold and headed off for great adventures and they are both inspiring and entertaining. By the way, Alan is the fellow who made some of us instructors in the first place. Apart from being an awesome author and story teller, he's a superb instructor and speaks annually at the Vancouver Boat Show. Anyone in the Jib Set Meetup group is welcome to attend and the event is priced for sailors... "the wind is free and so is this session!" As we are heading into that time of the year, we will ask for people to bring something for the VANCOUVER FOOD BANK (non perishable or donation)... let's be good to those who need help. * - spoiler alert - Alan becomes our chief instructor at the end of his book... he was involved with Cooper Boating before Forbes' Cooper sold the business by the way. He's also now a fleet owner having resisted the temptation for a few decades.

  • Monthly boat maintenance
JIBSET members gather on the first Saturday of every month for regular boat maintenance. It is a good opportunity to meet other people in the club while learning the basics of keel boat maintenance. Things get underway at 9AM at the JIBSET clubroom in the Cooper Boating classroom. Non JIBSET members are welcome to drop by and meet Jib Setters, check out the club and the boats. Time and weather permitting there is usually an opportunity to get out for some sailing in the afternoon. Hope to see you there!

  • Free Seminar - planning an offshore adventure
If you have ever dreamed of an offshore adventure, we have a special session to kick off our November speaker series. On site will be Tom Wahl, techie and offshore navigator on 2014 & 2016 Vic Maui Races (aboard Alegria) and Scott Watson, Sail Canada and IYT offshore instructor. The session will be on preparing for an offshore adventure and an ability to ask questions of an offshore instructor on how to prepare if you do pursue offshore certification. It's getting more and more difficult to get insurance for this sort of adventure, so be sure to attend this session if something like this may be 'on your horizon'. Anyone in the Jib Set Meetup group is welcome to attend and the event is priced for sailors... "the wind is free and so is this session!"
