SATURDAY - HIKING - LANDS END - CRAGGY CLIFF TOPS AND SANDY BAYS

This is a walk of 18 miles taking in beautiful coastlines, beaches and rural countryside. We will pass headlands looking out to sea. As we look down below us, we hope to see seals swimming through the blue waters to chase fish.

SUNDAY - HIKING - CORNISH QUOITS AND STONE CIRCLES

This is a walk of 16 miles near the village of Zennor. It is a voyage of discovery going back into the past.

Quoits are megalithic burial chambers or dolmen, located on the Penwith moors. These date from 4000–1500 BC, concurrent with Stonehenge. We will visit two of these and learn about them.

SUNSET - CAPE CORNWALL

Either on Saturday or Sunday evening, we will visit Cape Cornwall for sunset if the weather is obliging. It is wonderful to see the sun set into the sea and watch the colours of the sky changing slowly to red. Perhaps the most beautiful sunset location in the UK.

HEALTH & SAFETY

The Saturday walk at Land's End is not technically difficult but 18 miles is a long walk so you'll need to be fit.

The Sunday walk near Zennor is again not technically difficult but 16 miles on top of the long walk the previous day will again be tiring.

Please note that all walking routes are dependent on the weather and people's fitness levels. Alternative routes and activities may be adopted in the case of adverse weather conditions.

There is always a risk of twisting ankles or slipping on uneven or wet ground, so please ensure you bring walking boots or walking shoes with "rigid" soles and good grip. You will be responsible for your own safety.

Also consider knee/ankle supports and walking poles to prevent leg joints giving way on the descents.

Walks will be led by a trained Mountain Leader and Outdoor First Aider.

EQUIPMENT

Your safety and enjoyment of the weekend depends on you being properly equiped for all weather conditions.

Please bring:

• walking boots or walking shoes

• waterproofs (jacket and trousers)

• woolly hat, gloves, fleece

• 2 x 1 litre water bottles

• water

• day sack - 15-25 litres backpack, with waterproof lining bag or cover

• whistle, compass, map for safety

• sun cream and sunglasses

• snacks

• mobile phone and charger - there is patchy mobile phone reception across most of West Penwith

• walking stick(s) - if you need

• knee support straps - if you might need these, please use them on Day 1 as a preventative measure to allow your legs to strengthen, rather than as a treatment after a knee injury is sustained

• painkillers?
