What we're about

Welcome! This meetup dedicated to all professionals involved in Cyber Security for Automated Processes and Control Systems including security for Operating Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA Systems, Transportation Systems, Building Control Systems (BCS), and even emerging Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems. Our purpose is to connect the professionals in the Greater Jakarta area with real interest in or responsibility for the cyber security of these systems.

Once we have enough critical mass of interest in Jakarta, we will gather for purposes of education, information exchange, and discovery of new opportunities and, yes, perhaps a few happy hours! If you are interested in serving on a committee to help shape this meetup experience, please contact the organizers directly.

This event is part of (CS)²AI's 100 Days of Transportation Cyber Security!

With a major role to play in the success of a global sports event such as the world cup, the stakes don't get any higher and there was a race against time to setup an effective OT SOC for a national rail company with the clear mandate to transport millions of passengers safely and securely while being under global spotlight. In this session we shall explain the journey towards building the Middle East 1st OT rail security operations centers and one of the early ones worldwide.

The session will also discuss the lessons learned and what was the value realized by such a huge undertaking.

Cybersecurity attacks and threats have been a growing issue for critical infrastructure sectors and general industry. We have seen ransomware attacks, data breaches, phishing, and cybercrimes. While these issues cause problems in daily business execution, there is a more pressing concern lurking on the horizon and seeping through the cracks, the protection of critical infrastructure in this vast landscape of cyberspace. In the not-too-distant past, we have seen evidence of OT attacks like STUXNET (2010), Shamoon (2012), Snowden (2013), Industroyer (2016) and Colonial Pipeline (2021).

In a recent discussion with colleagues related to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA) Standard Committee, questions arose as to whether the NQA-1 Standard needs to focus on providing requirements or guidance for cybersecurity as it relates to safety system quality. The short answer is yes, with some constraints. This presentation focuses on the role of cybersecurity in nuclear facility applications especially in implementation of the ASME NQA-1 Standard. NQA-1 is the standard that nearly all nuclear facilities in the United States, including commercial power plants and government installations,
adhere to in order to comply with federal regulations concerning quality in the nuclear industry.

It will attempt to answer the following questions:
1. Is cybersecurity important to the design and safety of operations technology systems?
2. Should the NQA-1 Standard have requirements for implementing cybersecurity in structures, systems, and components?
3. Should the NQA-1 Standard include guidance for implementing cybersecurity in structures, systems, and components?
