When: Thursday, March 31,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Chili’s South Indian Restaurant
4220 University Way NE
Seattle, WA

Now that light rail has finally arrived in the U-District, I want to return to our roots. Years ago, most of our early meetups were in the University District, but we outgrew the size of most of the restaurants there, and started spreading our wings.

Chili's South Indian restaurant, one of the few in-city options for dosas (Indian crepes), utthapam (like okonomiyaki), idli (a kind of steamed fermented rice cake) and the like, has moved a bit closer to the U-District core.

We'll order a bunch of food to share. Because it's Indian, a good portion will be vegetarian, but we'll also order an assortment of meat and fish dishes for those who need it. If you have more complicated dietary needs than that, let me know ahead of time and I'll try to make some adjustments. Pricing should be $20/person or so for food. I think you'll dig it.

Please bring cash; my children are back in town and they get fussy while I settle the bill at the end of the night, and this is a small restaurant that probably doesn't have a fancy way of juggling a dozen credit cards. Don't make me freak on you.

The fastest, easiest option to get here from Downtown or Capitol Hill is a combination of Link Light Rail and bus route 48, 70, 71 or 73. Northgate-area folks may find the 75 to do the trick. There's frequent bus service right from the University Link station. It's also quite likely to be a nice walk this week. Parts of Capitol Hill and Montlake benefit from direct routes 43 and 48, which may be even easier.

Parking on the street in the U-district can be moderately challenging but there are usually options on the street, and there's a 2 dollar evening rate at[masked]th Ave NE, about 3 blocks from the restaurant.

I plan to pre-kai at Kai's, for nostalgia's sake, though there's a different owner from when we used to have meetups here on a regular basis. I will likely head to the back room. I should be there no later than 6pm.

Nijikai may be at Big Time Brewery across the street. Please note that after 8pm you'll need to be prepared to show photo ID.

This Meetup repeats every week on Thursday.
