Javascript Exchange #2 - Virtual Event
Details
After the success of our Launch Event at Bulb last month, we wanted to continue providing great content to the JavaScript community - albeit remotely.
Which is why we will be streaming talks from Bet365, RVU (Uswitch, Money & Bankrate) & Vonage in a virtual event, broadcast live.
Join us via Video Link, on the at 5:30pm.
We'll have 3 x 20 minute talks starting at 5:30pm sharp. Questions will be run through the Sli.do platform.
We can't provide beer and pizza to everyone, however, we are running a competition to get a pizza delivered for the event to 10 attendees. RSVP to be in with a chance of winning!
This month we have talks from:
Jonathan Fielding, Lead Engineer @ RVU (Uswitch, Money & Bankrate)

Title: Being Eco-Friendly with JavaScript
As developers we have access to huge amounts of data about the world around us. This talk will use live coding to look at the data of the world around us so we can better optimise our lives to be eco-friendly.
Jonathan is a lead engineer at RVU where he leads the team responsible for financial services. Outside of work, he has written Beginning Responsive Design with HTML5 and CSS3 and has worked on many open source projects including SimpleStateManager, Echo.js and Doccy. Aside from development he also has an awesome collection of geeky t-shirts.

Title: Dead Simple APIs with OpenAPI
We live in a world that is powered by APIs. The demands of modern applications can come from many different directions, like native applications, progressive web apps, raw clients, and even just data ingestion has increased the need for APIs. The problem starts immediately as Analysis Paralysis sets in. There are so many API types and specifications out there. OpenAPI is a specification and set of related tooling that can make it easy to design, describe, and help build an API in many different languages. See how easy it is to hit the ground running using OpenAPI, Spotlight, and OpenAPI Generator to drop in an API into any project.
Chris Tankersley is a husband, father, author, speaker, developer, podcast host, and probably lots of other things he's forgetting to mention. He works for Nexmo/Vonage as a Developer Advocate.

Giorgos Bamparopoulos, Senior Software Developer @ bet365

Title: Measuring web performance with user-centric metrics
As web applications evolve and provide more and more features there is a growing need to accurately measure performance as perceived by users. While measuring performance during development can help to build faster applications, load and response times vary from user to user depending on their device and network conditions.
This talk covers the user-centric performance metrics available and the way we can collect and analyse these data on real users’ devices by leveraging Web APIs and data analysis tools.
Giorgos is a senior software engineer working at bet365 who loves being part of teams that implement enterprise scale architectures and processes that are geared towards quality and delivery. He has also worked as a freelancer developing websites and web applications.
We look forward to "seeing" some returning and new faces, at our second ever event. RSVP today.
All the best,
Javascript Exchange Team
