Humanist Perspectives Online - Watch Michael Moore's Planet of the Humans

Details
Planet of the Humans, a new documentary film, is extremely controversial and powerful, sometimes shocking. The movie is free to watch on YouTube. Watch it before the Zoom meeting and we will discuss it on Saturday the 16th at 10:00 am. Here is the YouTube link: https://youtu.be/Zk11vI-7czE
Warning: This movie will not make you feel better.
Here is an excerpt from a review by Variety: "A flashing red light to the green power movement, “Planet of the Humans” offers disillusioning evidence that much of what’s currently promoted as renewable energy is ineffectual, wasteful and far from “clean.” Released to YouTube on the eve of Earth Day’s 50th anniversary, it’s a provocative if straight-up depressing takedown of brand-name environmentalism that offers much bad news with scant constructive upside. This is a debut directorial feature for executive producer Michael Moore’s longtime producer and composer Jeff Gibbs."
The Hollywood reporter has this to say: "Nobody gets off easily in the film — including such environmental movement heroes as Al Gore, who is shown coming under fire for, among other things, selling his television network in 2013 to Al-Jazeera, funded by the major oil-exporting country of Qatar, or Bill McKibben, author of such books as The End of Nature, who is described as being in bed with corporate interests and sharply criticized for his advocacy of biomass, which involves the mass cutting down of trees. Among the other prominent figures skewered are Richard Branson, Michael Bloomberg and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
"Similarly, such organizations as the Sierra Club, The Nature Conservatory and the Union of Concerned Scientists are lambasted for such offenses as having investments in non-green companies. "The merger of environmentalism and capitalism is now complete," intones Gibbs."

We love controversy, so this should be an interesting discussion.
You must RSVP on Meetup before the meeting start time to see the Zoom link.

We will include time for participants to socialize and get acquainted, in keeping with our chapter goal of building community.

We need your help to tell us what topics you'd like to see explored at upcoming Humanist Perspectives programs. Let's spend a few minutes discussing this. Which past presentations did you like that we can expand on? Maybe you've seen some good Humanist videos to show. We are also looking for people to get involved with HP and help put presentations together as well as co-host sessions. Email tomk@jeffersonhumanists.org with your thoughts.
