Halloween Party Fundraiser (7th) in Berwyn, IL
Not a big fan of Halloween, & I don't decorate my house ... But Ed my Asst Organizer IS & Does.. And his Halloween Party is just GREAT ! I mean it, no other meetup event I've ever been to, has had more people singing it's praises, AND for 7 years, year after year, it get's Even Better ! It's a bit early this Year So DON'T MISS IT --- And It's for a good charity too (wow) ... IN ED's OWN WORDS: Since taking residence in this spooktacular bungalow in north Berwyn, I have restarted the tradition of throwing a Halloween party that raises money for non-profit organizations. For the last seven years the fundraiser had been expanded to, and the infusion of new people has made for a wonderful mix. (the house can comfortably hold ~120 people) The full length basement has an eight foot ceiling, and includes an 800 square foot floating wood floor installed for dancing. Each year two non-profits are chosen, one international and one local - Far– Freedom United is the world's largest community devoted to fighting human trafficking and modern slavery through international advocacy campaigns. They reduce demand by inspiring global society to become life-long abolitionists through learning and sharing knowledge. We channel that commitment to anti-slavery organizations through giving, and taking actions that call on governments and companies to end modern slavery. Near- Habitat for Humanity Chicago believes that everyone, everywhere, should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. More than building homes, they build communities, hope and opportunity for families to help themselves. By working at a community level, stability and self-reliance can be brought to entire areas of the city, helping individuals and neighborhoods to thrive. The required donation is $20 a person. Cash and checks made out to me will be split between the non-profits. One can also write a check directly to either organization. 100 % of the proceeds will go to the two organizations. If you cannot attend, please still consider donating. I will provide earth friendly appetizing food, snacks, desserts, soda, water, ice, and please bring whatever alcohol you are drinking. The many decorations I have accumulated over the years will be featured. This includes a large poster collection, mannequins, video/slide shows, and appropriate lighting, including the black light dance floor - which all adds to the fun. Costumes are required, which makes it more magical for everyone, and there will be prizes for the best individual and couple/group costume. Minimal and maximum effort costumes are all welcome! Besides my eclectic mix of cocktail and dance music, there will be a live band this year! 45RPMChicago will be rockin' the dance floor from 9 to 12:30 am. They play all types of dance music with the 60's being their specialty. This group of musicians have played together for many years under different band names, so they are very tight with a sweet sounding lead singer. Every time I've seen them has been a great dance night. Parking has not been a problem, as people have usually found spots within a couple of blocks. Smoking will only be allowed outside, and there will be an outside fire pit area (weather permitting) Hope you can make this fun event! It will be posted on three meetups.
