The Perseid Meteor Shower 2018
On August 12 we have the pleasure of experiencing the peak of the Best Meteor Shower the year under the darkest sky of the month as luck will be on our side with the timing being very near the New Moon! This is what we always hope for when the night sky is filled with the shooting stars we want to experience, a Moonless night in mid summer Joshua Tree! This is a Camping event! This is a dark night astronomy event, too! Our best visual telescopes will be aimed at all kinds of summer deep sky wonders. As always we will do a tour of the constellations and tell stories about the fascinating tales connected to our Cosmic experience. Since the Perseids will be happening all weekend with the peak on Sunday night, what better time to visit Joshua Tree and all that is available to enjoy. Camping with RV's can be reserved in advance with the campground. Tents or car camping need not reserve a space but check in and camping fees must be paid to the campground. Second Saturday will be this same weekend and the Art community always hosts a plethora of events to take in. Music is another highlight with lots of local venues put on cool shows. Besides night life, a drive in the National Park is another easy choice. There is a weekend filled with stuff to do. Camp out, stay up late, and check out the hopeful firestorm that is always possible at this special time. $5.00 please No Pets please Please drive slow to keep dust low Bring your comfy stuff

What we're about

Enjoy the outdoor Theaters night time events under the dark starry desert skies in Joshua Tree. Located in the Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground.

Main events, we project live deep space astronomy images onto large 9 x 12 foot screens. Other events we do are the Music Jam Astro Fest, Astronomy Fest & Star Parties & Solar Parties.

During the summer months SCDVA (Southern California Desert Video Astronomers) (http://scdva.org) hold star parties on Saturday evenings. These parties are usually free or a minimal charge. Go to http://scdva.org to see an event schedule.

In addition we do private parties and special group events. Also available is Astro camping either in tent, car, truck, van or RV.

All done to educate & promote astronomy in order to preserve the dark skies of the California Desert by creating an Astronomy Economy for the local businesses in Joshua Tree and surrounding areas.

Dark sky is good for humanity and the Planet. We are supporters of wise and considerate use of our natural resources and the impact that we have on our environment and the future well being of the Earth. We hope this idea will be one that all people will share in to fix the negative things left upon us from the past and to care about the way we build our future.
