For the first Journocoders of 2018 we’ll be learning how to visualise geographical data using QGis.

We’ll be building and styling graphics visualising London greenspace data in four different ways — a dot density map, proportional symbol map, choropleth map, and a hexagonal bin map. To do this we’ll use QGis, a popular tool for viewing, editing, and analysing geographical data.

Bring a laptop along as this is a practical, hands-on workshop. No programming experience is required. However, if you feel comfortable doing so, please download and install QGis (https://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html). If you have trouble doing that, don't worry, we will help you on the day.

Please make sure you're signed up to Dropbox to view our shared doc (https://bit.ly/journocoders-jan-2018) — and remember to add links to anything data or journalism-related you've seen or worked on to the show and tell section!
