Fall in love with Julia: A sparkling hands-on introduction to Julia 101

Details

UPDATE: github repository for today is https://github.com/schlichtanders/fall-in-love-with-julia

This is a new introductory series, "Fall in love with Julia", brought to you by the Julia User Group Munich.

This is for you:

  • you do Data Science in R, Python, Matlab, Fortran, or whatever?
  • you are totally new to programming?
  • you heard all the great news about Julia and would like to get to know its simplicity and power?
  • you are curious to try out the new language made for state-of-the-art applied math and data science?
  • you love hands-on jupyter notebook tutorials for jump starting your own skills? (if you don't know yet what jupyter is, I promise you are going to love it)

This is the first session of several meetups focussing on giving introductory practical workshops, so that everyone can actually get into this awesome language. And that within just 1.5 hours.

In this first meetup, Stephan Sahm, that is me, will lead you to the basics of Julia, showing you its simplicity -- really everyone can learn it within 1.5 hours -- and its two most powerful core components: Multiple Dispatch and Arrays.

All this will be powered by binder and jupyter, which will give everyone of you an interactive jupyter-notebook session.

Looking forward to see all of you!
Spread the news and invite everyone you know to not miss this Julia 101!
It is going to be online, so everyone from everywhere is highly welcome!
Let's make a huge event.

yours,
Stephan Sahm

P.S.: The link to the online tool will be made available 30 min before the actual start. Please join 5 min ahead, the session is going to start on-time, 19:00.
