    JuniorDev Auckland Meet

XERO LIMITED NZ, 96 Saint Georges Bay Road, Auckland, NZ

We’re happy to announce the next JuniorDev Auckland event!

Join us for an evening of learning and connection as we hear from our speakers and the experiences they’ll be sharing.

    Important Note for Attendees:

Talk 1: From Zero Interviews to Real Projects: What to Build When No One's Calling Back? by Ismael Silva
This talk is aimed squarely at where most of the room actually is right now — applying, waiting, wondering if the market has forgotten about them. The core idea is that waiting is the worst use of a junior's time, and there's a better way to spend those weeks that turns a CV into a portfolio and an interview into a conversation about something you've actually built.

The session will show that "building leverage" does not require massive side projects. It will also touch on the value of soft skills and leadership, making the discussion relevant for both junior and experienced developers.

    A bit about Ismael:

    • Ismael is a full-stack engineer specializing in Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, and Postgres, and currently runs a small product studio called Base Logic Labs. Before transitioning into tech, he spent more than 20 years in public speaking, sales, and leadership roles, delivering over a thousand talks across various settings.

Talk 2: How Fast Can You Rise? by Katrina Clokie
Katrina meets a lot of ambitious young people who seem to believe that it's possible for them to advance in their careers at an aggressive pace (once they get their foot in the door). She also meets a lot of people in Senior Engineering roles in their mid 20s who seem a little lost about where to go next. Let's talk about individual promotion trajectory and how we think about our careers. What is realistic and what opportunities do different approaches unlock? And what impact will AI have on career trajectory in the future?

    A bit about Katrina:

    • Katrina is an experienced technology leader who has spent more than 20 years working across software engineering, product management, and executive leadership roles, including CTO and CPTO positions. Throughout her career, she has led engineering teams, coached emerging leaders, and contributed actively to the global tech community as a keynote speaker, author, and co-founder of WeTest. She is also the author of A Practical Guide to Testing in DevOps, which was well-received by an international audience and has reached over 10,000 readers. Known for her calm, practical, and approachable leadership style, Katrina is passionate about helping others grow and succeed in their own leadership journeys.
