Craig Beaton - Junior User Researcher - Home Office

Craig Beaton is currently a User Researcher in the Digital, Data and Technology department of the Home Office. As a researcher, his main objective is to understand user behaviours, needs and motivations when government services are being designed. This is achieved by utilising and applying a variety of techniques, analysis and appropriate methodologies.

This talk will focus on some of the methods used with reference to some of the projects the Home Office has worked on in the last year. The talk will discuss what lessons were learned and why research is vital to developing the right services.

Sam O'Brien - User Experience Manager - EMEA - RingCentral

Sam has 10 years’ experience in design, user experience and most recently - conversion rate optimisation. Sam manages a small team of designers, developers and analysts focusing on the EMEA market and growing the business. His biggest achievement this year was the launch of the new RingCentral Australia Brand, where he worked closely with the product, marketing, sales and executive teams to provide a solution for the new market.

Sam's talk will discuss the importance of looking at data, both during your research stage and after launch, key take-aways and lessons learnt in the past 18 months working at RingCentral.

Jane Minto - Senior UX Consultant - Webcredible

Jane solves real problems through design thinking, using evidence and empathy, in order to make their lives better. She has designed a multi-award winning service, connecting older people with volunteer telephone befrienders to help combat loneliness. She has also been exploring how conversational and voice interfaces can help the ageing population access critical information and advice

This talk will cover the importance, and value, of undertaking research for new and emerging technologies. It will cover the lessons learnt whilst doing voice research, on Alexa, for one of the UK’s largest train companies: From preparing to run a session with a skill that’s still in it’s staging environment, to adapting your moderation style to suit the technology and how you can identify new business opportunities and unexpected use cases in your analysis.
