What we're about

This is a group for people who, like us, enjoy getting out and about in the great outdoors. The events will primarily be walks of all varieties but will also include weekend walking/camping trips and the occasional social event.

Upcoming events (5+)

Lendrick Loop and a bit of Glen Finglas (Grade C+ - Easy to Moderate)

Since we didn't make it to the start point last time due to snow. Am putting this on again. This walk is just over 8 miles with total (reasonably gentle) ascent of around 500m. Although termed as a loop we will venture up towards Glen Finglas for about 1.5 miles which, weather permitting, should give us some excellent views. Generally good paths throughout although can be a bit muddy in places so would recommend gaiters if you have them. We start at Little Druim Car Park about 1 mile east of Brig o Turk. Please note this is NOT the Lendrick Car Park with the visitors centre but is east from here on the opposite side of the road. This walk will require you to be properly equipped to match the conditions on the day, including proper footwear, outdoor clothing. If it is icy, then microspikes or similar and walking poles advised. In particular, at this time of year, everyone should carry a head torch. Please note that finish times quoted are only indicative and can vary for a number of unanticipated factors which may occur on the day. Please be aware that hillwalking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement. Attending this event also requires that you are fully aware of equipment and clothing needs, adequate supplies of food and water, knowledge of the group's guidelines on etiquette and behaviour. If you are able to offer a lift, please put a comment on the walk page, contact phone number. If you are asking for a lift, please ensure the driver has a contact number for you. Please also note that in most instances, the cars you travel in are the private vehicles of the owner, so, a change of boots and, or, clothing to keep cars clean is essential. Share of transport costs should always be discussed. Any issues on the day... [masked] (Jack)

Circuit of Hunterston Peninsula - 12 Miles Grade C+ (Easy to Moderate)

This is a varied, circular walk mainly on good flat tracks / paths and beach. There may be one slightly boggy section below cliffs at Portencross. Neither of us have done this walk, that we can recall, so we'll treat it as a bit of a recce so be prepared for some "u-turns" and head scratching. Duration approx. 5 hours, including stops. Points of interest en route: Hunterston Castle, Hunterston Power Station, Portencross Castle + Seamill beach and golf course Getting to start: There is a direct train from Glasgow Central. Take the 09.40 Largs train arriving West Kilbride at 10.31. Otherwise there is ample on road parking around the town.
