Abstract Photography at the Tate Modern

There is a unique exhibition currently on at the Tate Modern called "Shape of Light". It explores the playful relationship between photography and abstract art over the past century. In this meetup, we will go check out the exhibition and use it as inspiration to experiment with our own artistic philosophy and practice.

THEME:
We'll be looking at the process of abstraction, and probably laughing at ourselves getting philosophical! Our practical intention will be to mindfully explore and express our realities - not necessarily just what we see, but also our emotions and thoughts in the moment.

PLAN:
10.00: Tate Modern opens and we hit the exhibition
11.45: Head over to the Ground Floor Cafe
12.00: Regroup and explore our own theme for abstract photography
12.30: Create images inside /outside the building
13.30: Come together to share experiences and images
14.00: Close
Optional: group lunch - bring your own / get from cafe

ALTERNATIVE PLAN (NO EXHIBITION):
If you want to skip the exhibition but would like to join the photography session, you're welcome to join us directly at the Ground Floor Cafe at 11.45am. Look for a group of characters with cameras - or call me in case you can't find us (I'll include my number in the email I send beforehand).

WHAT TO BRING?

• Camera or phone camera.
• Charged battery and enough space.
• Any interesting filters you have (but probably not worth bring a tripod).
• Think of a quality that you would like to bring into your life more strongly (it could be anything eg. simplicity, structure, vibrancy, or connection). We will be using this to sharpen our personal themes.

WHO'S THIS FOR?
This group is open to all levels of photographers. We usually find we all have something useful to learn from one another - be it photographic technique, or a way of looking at the world.
