Hi Everyone,

Want to be a better paddler? Improve your core strength and balance? Don’t wait until kayak season to get started!

Come join us for YOGA FOR KAYAKERS class!

Location:  Private Clubhouse in Farmington area near UConn Health Center.

This event is designed with the intention of applying common YOGA principles for the kayak paddler. Our goals are to become more flexible, strengthen the upper body muscles we tend to use when paddling and to strengthen the core muscles that may be needed in situations for self-rescue and getting in and out of your kayak.  Actually, YOGA can benefit us in everyday living and is not limited  to kayak activities.

About our Host: Lisa J recently completed her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu Yoga Center and is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) and member of the Yoga Alliance.  A yoga practitioner for the past 12 years and an avid kayaker for 7 years, she is offering a yoga class featuring postures (Asanas) that align with the principles of kayak paddling and self-rescue. You will learn how to lengthen your spine, strengthen your core, stretch your hamstrings, and develop better balance, core rotation and more. All postures will be accompanied by a discussion about how these will benefit not only your paddling and/or self-rescue skills, but your overall physical and mental well-being.  Additional class dates may be added depending on the interest level.

Is this class right for me?  This class is appropriate for the novice person who wants to try yoga for the first time and for anyone who is has done yoga in the past. Any current or past injuries will be considered and appropriate modifications offered, including use of a chair if needed. If you are not sure, please email me directly and/or  check with your doctor before signing up.

Please bring the following items to class: (you can find these at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Walmart, etc. for minimum cost)

Yoga Mat

Yoga block(s)

Yoga Strap

Pillow and/or blankets to sit on

Water and towel

Pls wear loose fitting clothing.

Throughout the year, there may be more Yoga and other offerings for your well-being at our hiking, camping and kayaking events.

I look forward to seeing you!

Lisa J

This was a very nice class, its at the starting point for first timers and still worked out well for all that came.
I see the need for all we used and the excersize felt real good and to end with a good resting point after.
Thanks Lisa for the class and location..

Warning: nothing I bought is color coordinated. I got the mat at TJMaxx, the strap at Target, and the blocks at Walmart along with the blanket. I am scary. So be forewarned. It is not intentional, I just could not find stuff that matched.

While on the Wait List, I made other plans, thus now promoted to attending, I'm changing it immediately to "no" to allow someone else to attend. Thanks, Lisa, for doing this!

Hi Lisa, What will be the cost for this? I would be coming from Southeastern CT. It would be good to know total expenditures....

Hi! The class is full right now and there's no charge for this introductory program. I will be adding some additional dates as interest is more than I expected. Hope to see you soon.

Just a couple of notes for those attending, please try not to eat anything at least 2 hours before class. Also, if for some reason you can't make it, please update your RSVP as soon as possible to open up a spot for someone on the wait list. Additional classes may be added shortly for those who could not make it or because the class was full. Looking forward to seeing you all! Namaste

Since i have been staying flexible using the old taequando excercizes and slowly strengthening my knee but avoiding any neck strains, i will let those more in need go for the YOGA this time out , but i might go in the weight room and or join you all for the walk after ?

I comparison shopped at TJMaxx and Walmart. Mats and blocks are less expensive at TJMaxx.
