May/June 2020 - For the near future there will be no in person events for this group. I hope all of you are doing well and look forward to getting back out on the trails with all of you. If you are requesting to join this group, there may be a delay in response. For those that do not have photos of themselves and/or a user name that actually contains their own name, your request will not be accepted. See details below. Thanks!
This group is focused on hiking in the KC metro area. City sidewalks, park and bike trails, and nature areas. Occasional day trips and other adventures. This is an outside activity and social site, for friendly interaction. This is not a dating site.
This is a private group. To be accepted to this group you must agree to terms listed in the About Statement and in event listings.
Photo: A photo is a must. Your face must be clear and visible, and preferably no other people present.
Know Your Endurance Level: Sign up for events you know you can complete comfortably. If you have limited endurance, look for events that mention drop off points for shorter walking options.
RSVP Courtesy: Sign up only if you know you can attend. Do not sign up as a place holder for a “Maybe”. Change RSVP to No if plans change. Repeat no shows might be tracked and site owner, organizers, and hosts have the right to remove or change RSVPs at will with no explanation.
Wait lists: Wait lists are naturally managed by Meetup. When someone on the Going list changes their RSVP, a wait listed member is moved to the Going list. If you are on a wait list, it means that you won't be able to attend the event unless enough people drop out or the organizer/host decides to move your wait listed RSVP to Going. The organizer/host can make changes to attendance limits and the wait list at will. Comments posted to the event will go to everyone signed up, even if wait listed members. This does not imply that it is OK to attend if you are on the wait list. [Added 2/22/2020]
Come prepared: Members are responsible for wearing appropriate foot wear and providing any equipment they feel they may need. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with tread meant for the activity. Almost always, closed toe footwear is recommended. Keep hydrated by bringing a water bottle and bring snacks for longer hikes. Prepare for ground conditions, and weather/temperature changes. Events are usually rain or shine.
Be courteous: When walking with others and when participating in public discussions and comments. Allow extra time to find parking and walk to the meeting point so the group can start on time.
This is not a dating site: Do not pursue others unless the interest is mutual and verbally expressed.
Follow instructions and obey rules/laws: City and Park rules/laws apply to everyone. Follow written and verbal instructions from hosts and organizers.
Messaging: (Optional, but preferred). Take the time to turn on the messaging feature in meetup. This will allow event organizers and hosts to communicate directly to you.
Notifications: Turn on Meetup notifications, so that at a minimum you will get notified if a comment is posted to an event you are signed up for. [Added 2/22/2020]
Guests and Children: All guests must be accompanied by a registered member and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Some events may not allow guests, or may limit the number of guests.
Leave No Trace: Carry out what you carry in. Dispose of trash properly. This includes pet waste.
Pets: Most of us love dogs, but these hikes are human focused, not pet focused. Pets must always be on a short, fixed leash. Owners must follow all park rules and city laws. Owners will keep dogs close by at all times and keep them from jumping, tripping, running into, or "nosing" the humans. Waste must always be picked up and disposed of properly.
Personal Safety: Members are responsible for their own safety. Do not share personal information on public event chats. Do not ride share with anyone you do not know well.
By signing up with this group and attending any meetup event, you AGREE that you are doing so at your own personal risk. You AGREE that the site owner, organizer(s), host(s) or other leader will not be held liable for injuries or losses by you, or your friends/family/heirs. This waiver applies to any guest a participant brings. You FULLY ACCEPT responsibility for guests, children, and pets. You acknowledge that hiking/walking on any type of path, in any location, has an inherent danger. ATTEND EVENTS AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU AGREE TO TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY INCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER EVENTS. YOU AGREE TO PERSONALLY MANAGE YOUR OWN LIMITATIONS AND ENDURANCE.
