Tonight we have a special reason for changing the normally scheduled meeting. Kansas City is holding an open public hearing regarding the fate of Kemper Arena. The Brigade believes that the arena should be repurposed to become a digital gaming and events arena.

In light of tonight's scheduled topic -- how to increase civic engagement in KC -- the decision has been made to postpone our regular meeting and ask that you please attend this public hearing instead, as it is a clear example of real world civic engagement at its best.

REUSE VS DEMOLITION OF KEMPER ARENA PUBLIC HEARING MONDAY, AUGUST 25, 2014 5pm KCMO Planning Zoning and Economic Development Committee Kemper Arena/West Bottoms Work Session #4 Monday, August 25th American Royal Complex/Kemper Arena 5:00 pm American Royal Complex Tour 5:45 pm Break for quick dinner 6:00 pm Public Testimony Session in Replays Lounge, Kemper Arena There are 2 competing plans for Kemper Arena; The American Royal wants to tear down the arena and build a new smaller arena. They want to expand on agricultural shows, horse shows along with agrarian exhibitions, demonstrations etc. The competing plan is to preserve Kemper Arena, modify it to accommodate indoor sports for youth and adults - soccer, volleyball, rugby etc.. This plan is proposed by Foutch Brothers. This is an opportunity for you to voice your opinions, After all Kemper Arena was built with tax-payer dollars, was rehabbed about 10 years ago with tax-payer dollars.
