Dine out at Thai Silk! Our next monthly Thai Meal is on Saturday Nov 17th. Calling lovers of Thai Food, come and enjoy a tasty two course Thai Meal for only £12 ( including service) for two courses, plus discounted drinks (around 10%). We meet in the Bar at from 6.00pm onwards to buy our drinks, soon after which, we move into the restaurant. There will be two sittings for dinner. First sitting is at around 6.30pm and the second sitting is at around 7.45pm. There may be a later sitting about 8.30pm. Your time of arrival will determine which sitting you will join. After the meal there will be more socialising in the Thai Silk Bar (see below). Please note that guests of members (who also can take advantage of the special drink prices all evening) will be charged £14 for the meal and the evening. Vegetarian option also available at this restaurant. This is an excellent restaurant in an excellent central location. This restaurant is very popular and we had around 60 people from our group attending this event last month. MENU including 3rd course sweet option for just £2. The set menu costs £12 inclusive of service for 2 courses (starter and main). Desert is £2 extra. All drinks should be purchased at the bar and brought into the restaurant with you. That way the drinks are cheaper. If you order drinks at the table you will be asked to pay separately and you will be charged normal prices which is more!! Please bring enough cash (£12 for the food, plus your drinks) Please do not bring credit cards as there will be a minimum credit card spend at the bar and it delays settling of the food bill. The set meal consists of a starter and a main course (optional desert course £2 extra). First course: everyone receives a mixture of starters. Then second course: everyone receives their chosen individual main course. All main courses come with rice and noodles and Thai vegetables. The venue is not on a main road. It is close to and parallel with the street called 'The Cut'. When on 'The Cut' head for the Anchor and Hope pub (don't go in!!), then turn down the street along the side of this pub and then head for the railway arches, and a green oasis of bars and restaurants will soon come into view on the right. The venue is also directly behind Southwark Tube Station. "Our DJ provides a unique eclectic mix of music – something for everyone – that you will not find anywhere else in town on a Saturday night!! So when things get going after 9pm you’ll be able to boogie on down for a couple of hours!! SELECTED COCKTAILS are 2 for £9! (that is effectively £4.50 per cocktail!). There is also a wide selection of draught beer/lager available at approx £4.50 a pint. We will meet in the Bar at around 8-30pm where we will meet up with all those people who have been to today's earlier event next door in the main restaurant. • WALK - Sidcup to Bexleyheath (01.12.18).
Walk: Starting at Sidcup station and ending at a Toby Carvery pub at Crook Log, near Bexleyheath station. We will also pass through Lamorbey Park, along the River Shuttle to Bexley Woods and then into Danson Park before finishing at Crook Lodge, which is a short distance away from Bexleyheath station . Total distance about 5.5 kilometres max. History of Danson Park and Mansion:- Danson Park was contained within the Manor of Bexley. The Manor of Bexley was acquired by Henry VIII, and remained a part of the royal estates until James I sold it to raise funds for the crown. In 1699 John Styleman, a director of the British East India Company, took up residence at Danson. In 1723 Styleman leased the property for 99 years to John Selwyn MP, a royal courtier, who improved and enlarged the estates to include a mansion with five bedrooms, four living rooms, a nursery, kitchen and brewhouse, as well as an icehouse, elaborate water features, and an ornamental Chinese-style house. Danson House as it stands today was originally called Danson Hill, it is Palladian villa designed by leading architect Sir Robert Taylor (also architect of the Bank of England), and constructed to the north of the older original mansion in 1763. Danson House is now the register office for Bexley Borough Council. Look for Ken with the Kens Events/Meetup sign outside Sidcup Railway Station. A £3 meetup organiser's contribution will be collected from attendees who do not hold the Ken's Events Card. The Ken's Event Card costs £12 which entitles you to attend all events for free for 12 months (i.e. just £1 per month). Click on this link to get a Card. https://www.meetup.com/KENS-EVENTS-EXPLORE-LONDON-SECRETS/dues/ You do not need a paypal account, you can use your credit card. When you arrive at the station look for the 'KEN'S EVENTS/MEETUP' Flag/Sign outside the station. Walking is one of life's great and healthy social activities. So if you can, join us for this leisurely freestyle and fascinating afternoon stroll. RISK WARNING: Good sturdy shoes are recommended for this walk. Exposed feet or legs are not recommended. Also please dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water. This walk, in parts, is similar to a countryside walk so please take care and be prepared for uneven paths and tracks, tree roots and low overhanging bushes and tree branches. When crossing roads take care to only use safe crossing points. Please also take care to avoid cyclists who may also use some of these paths and roads. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for approximately 2 hours without a break. The walks on this group are usually between 4 and 6 miles long. Please arrive in good time to allow opportunity to use toilets at the start of the walk as there may not be any toilet breaks readily available during the walk. Enjoy London! Get out and see your City in the company of great friends! Join us for a SUNDAY AFTERNOON CIRCULAR WALK starting and finishing at Epsom and taking us through Epsom Common and Ashtead Common. Walking is one of life's great social activities. We aim to finish at the Assembly Rooms (JD Wetherspoons) in Epsom. Ashtead Common is a 200 hectare (500 acre) ancient wooded common with over 2,300 ancient oak pollards located in north-east Surrey. The site has been part of the Epsom and Ashtead Commons Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) since 1955 due to its rich community of breeding birds. It has also been a National Nature Reserve since 1995 due to the decaying wood of ancient trees and the rare invertebrates that live in it. The site includes two ancient Scheduled Monuments - a Roman villa and a triangular earthwork. To return to Central London you can catch the train from Epsom Station.
